Fort Wayne Trails Staff

Lori Keys, Executive Director

Lori Keys believes in trails. In January 2011, after the merger of three grassroots trail organizations, Lori became Fort Wayne Trails Inc.‘s first Executive Director. She moved to Fort Wayne in 2006 to assume the Executive Director role of one of FWT’s predecessor organizations, Aboite New Trails (“ANT”). During her tenure, ANT raised an additional $8.5 million for its project and was repeatedly recognized as a statewide leader in grassroots trail building and advocacy. In 2008 ANT spearheaded the Oprah’s Big Give challenge, in which ABC provided 90 affiliate stations with seed money and a challenge to grow the funds and give back to the community. Indiana’s NewsCenter chose ANT as the recipient of the challenge funds, and the resultant Oprah’s Big Give Fort Wayne Trails campaign raised over $1.1 million dollars, more than any of the other 90 cities that participated. Now, at Fort Wayne Trails, Lori looks forward to maintaining the forward momentum and serving all sectors of the community with safe and convenient trails.

Lori began her career with the Indianapolis Greenways, where she worked her way from Intern to Project Manager in four years. She procured $1.5 million in funding and partnerships for Indy Greenways projects, working under the tutelage of Monon creator Ray Irvin, formerly the State’s appointed Greenways and Bikeways Manager.

A Dean’s List graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington with a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science, Lori enjoys running, bicycling, and volunteering for community improvement projects in her spare time. In addition to her passion for the outdoors, Lori promotes community wellness and culture by teaching Zumba, Latin and ballroom dance.

Josh Smith, Operations Coordinator

Josh Smith joined FWT’s staff in October 2011 as its part-time Operations Coordinator. His background is in Computer Science, which he puts to good use maintaining FWT's databases and website. Prior to working at Fort Wayne Trails, Josh worked as an American Sign Language interpreter for a local school district. He still interprets in the community on a freelance basis. When not at work at Fort Wayne Trails, Josh keeps his computer skills sharp by working on programming projects for local businesses.

In his spare time, he enjoys doing volunteer work, writing, hanging out with friends, beating people at Scrabble, and riding roller coasters. Most weekends you can find him out on the trails on his bike, riding from someplace very quickly to someplace else, just because he can.
