Thanks to the support of our donors, today we presented Mayor Sharon Tucker and the City of Fort Wayne with a check for $157,000 to support the final segment of the Hanna Street Trail from Wallace to Berry streets. The completion of this .75 mile section of trail will create a continuous connection from Tillman Park to Downtown Fort Wayne. The total length of the Hanna Street Trail measures just over 4.5 miles.
“The City of Fort Wayne values its partnership with Fort Wayne Trails. We’re thankful for the organization and the many individuals in our community who provide funding to help our trails grow and succeed,” said Mayor Tucker. “The Hanna Street Trail is a critical connector that allows for recreation, exercise, access to shopping and other destinations, and enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors.
This is the second contribution Fort Wayne Trails has made to the Hanna Street Trail corridor, with an initial $100,000 being gifted in February of 2024 as part of the Connecting 4 campaign.
“Fort Wayne Trails is proud to make an investment in the Hanna Street Trail. This trail provides crucial connectivity from Southeast Fort Wayne to Downtown—linking neighborhoods, parks, schools, and more. Beyond improving access and mobility, this connection helps strengthen the fabric of our community by creating safe, inclusive spaces that support active lifestyles, foster local pride, and promote equitable access to the city’s resources,” stated Executive Director Kent Castleman.
Contributions like this would not be possible without the support of our donors. With funds to support trails at a state level being cut and more pressure on local government to fund more, your support is more important than ever. You can show your support and leave a lasting impact by supporting one of our Trail Hubs or becoming a monthly Trail Blazer.
