Fort Wayne Trails Presents NACS School Board with $25,000 For Safe Connection

On Monday evening, Fort Wayne Trails presented the Northwest Allen County Schools board with a $25,000 contribution. These funds will help connect the existing sidewalk system at Maple Creek Middle School to the new trail along Union Chapel Road, creating a safer and more accessible route for students and pedestrians traveling to and from campus.

“We are pleased to present this donation to NACS on behalf of our donors. Donations like this help keep things moving for trails and this pivotal connection to the middle school helped the school board keep things moving on their end. FWT was created for this very reason and we are happy to help.” – Kent Castleman, Fort Wayne Trails Executive Director

In January 2025, the Board of School Trustees unanimously approved the donation of the road right-of-way to the Allen County Highway Department for the next phase of the Union Chapel Trail. This 1.5-mile segment, a project of the Allen County Commissioners, will connect thousands of households to new and existing trail sections, bridging the gap between Corbin Road and Auburn Road.

“We’re grateful for Fort Wayne Trails’ partnership and support. This project will help better connect our schools, students, and community.” – Superintendent Wayne Barker

Phase one of this project, Corbin Road to Coldwater Road has been bid and will begin construction this summer with substantial completion by September 2026.
